Durham County DWI Guide is published by Luxe Club LLC, an independent publisher. We are not a law firm, we are not a lawyer referral service, and we are not part of Durham County, the North Carolina Judicial Branch or the NCDMV.

No lawyer pays to appear on this site today, and no lawyer is listed on it. Nothing here is legal advice, and reading it does not make anyone your lawyer. When this guide points to a place to find one, it points to the NC Bar Association Lawyer Referral Service, which is run by the bar association and not by us, or to the court's own process for appointed counsel.

Why it exists

When people in Durham search for what happens after a DWI arrest, the pages that come up are law-firm pages and lawyer directories. They are written to win a client, and almost none of them name the courthouse, the jail, the magistrate, the agencies that make the arrests, the county's crash and conviction numbers, or the statutes that decide the case. We built this guide to fill that gap: one place that names the Durham County Courthouse at 510 S. Dillard St., the Durham County Detention Facility at 219 S. Mangum St., the clerk's window, the NCDMV's rules and the sections of Chapter 20 of the General Statutes, and links to each of them.

A person who has just been arrested needs dates and addresses more than adjectives. The 10 days without driving, the 30-day revocation, the $100 fees at the clerk's office, the 10 days to appeal a conviction: those are the facts this guide exists to put in front of you, with their sources, in plain English.

How it is written

Every page is written from primary sources: the statutes on ncleg.gov, the courts' own pages and forms on nccourts.gov, the NCDMV, the Department of Insurance, the Department of Health and Human Services, Durham County and City of Durham pages, and the Census. Law-firm pages are never the source of a number. Every page carries the date it was published and the date it was last reviewed, and every rule links to the statute or the official page it comes from.

How this guide is written sets out the method in full, including the things this guide does not do: no advice, no predictions, no testimonials, no case results and no claims about any lawyer.

What the phone number and the form are for

The phone number and the message form on this site reach Luxe Club LLC, the publisher. They do not reach a lawyer, and no one who answers can give legal advice about your case. The form asks only for a name, a phone number, an email address, the county and the court date, so that a reply can be sent; it does not ask for the facts of what happened, and you should not send them.

A lawyer may later be listed on this site. If that happens, this page and every page that names the lawyer will say so plainly, including that the listing is paid for. Until then, the honest description is the one at the foot of every page: an independent guide, not a law firm.

How to correct an error

If a number, a date, an address or a rule on this site is wrong or out of date, tell us through the contact page and name the page. Corrections are made on the page itself and the last-reviewed date is updated; if a fact cannot be re-verified against its source, it is removed rather than left standing. The same goes for a link that no longer works.
